Barry Crawford from Scotland, has been our Course Manager here since September 2009.
He started his career at Prestwick Golf Club in 1997, where he worked for 5 years gaining a very valuable grounding in greenkeeping. He was educatied through Elmwood College.
When Loch Lomond Golf Club bought over Dundonald Links, Barry moved to work on the grow in. It was here he first met and worked with our architect Kyle Philips.
After 2 years at Dundonald Links Barry seeked a new challenge. He headed over to America in 2005 to work on the construction of Bayonne Golf Club in New Jersey. Then onto Augusta National Golf Club for a year experiencing the 2006 Masters tournament.
While returning to Scotland Barry worked on the construction of Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club. He then moved to join forces again with Kyle Philips here at the PGA in the summer of 2008.
It is safe to say Barry has experienced the best of both worlds when it comes to managing different grass types. As well as construction/grow in experience which stands him in good stead to managing the PGA of Sweden National. ” Throughout my career I have been very fortunate to work at some top golf courses. I have worked for many top superintendents and learned different aspects from each and every one. I have never came across a project like the PGA of Sweden National. The ambition and vision of our owners using Kyle Philips to design two individually different championship golf courses, offering two contrastingly different golf experiences is unique in many ways.” With differences in rootzone and grass specification it is without doubt that every new day is a constant challenge to Barry and his team. ”In order to maintain an international standard here at the PGA of Sweden National there is no question this is a live in job which craves total commitment on a daily basis.”
Barry, a plus two handicap golfer who shares a huge passion for playing golf as well as maintaining our Championship golf courses is fully dedicated to the job.
“I am fortunate I have been involved form the early days here. I have built a team which understand and share the same philosophes when it comes to managing the turf. You cannot buy time and our golf courses will continue to evolve over time adding to the unique golf experiences we offer here”.
He adds “ I am very excited about the future of our golf courses, the plantation we are undertaking on the links will transform the landscape within 5 years. Having the Nordea Masters on the Lakes course will only increase our popularity as an internationally recognized Golf Club.
We are very fortunate to have such an accomplished Course Manager. He has the constant responsibility on the development of our golf courses on his shoulders, making sure of a very bright future here at the PGA of Sweden National Golf Club.
