Head Professional John Grant
The first golf professional is believed to have been Tom Morris who was employed by Prestwick Golf Club in 1851. Our Head Pro at PGA National is John Grant. John worked at Ystad Golf Club for 23 years and was recently awarded honorary membership. As a teacher John is very aware of asking the pupil of their needs, and, working together attaining the desired result.
It is important that the pupil is assessed from their own specific attributes. We look at the physical and technical aspects of the golfers swing and see how we can best improve the golfer. More and more pupils in every age group are working out regularly and this in itself helps the golfer become more proficient. Swedish players are probably the most fitness conscious players in the world today.
Some players have been coming to John for the quick fix lesson for 23 years. Same lesson 23 years in a row. Others come to John under a longer more instructional period to make the best possible improvements. This is the preferred method of teaching from John’s point of view.
Really good players can play with equipment which doesn´t suit them, to a fairly high level. They quite simply adapt to their clubs. Players of less ability have extreme difficulty in playing with non suitable equipment.
Here at the PGA of Sweden National we have installed TaylorMade´s MAT-T custom club fitting system. State of the art technology where we can give the customer exactly the equipment they need to help improve their game and eliminate eventual injury problems.
John started to play golf with his younger brother at a very young age. John’s father was at the time a police officer and confiscated a set of clubs from the local thief. After no one claimed the clubs the boys started to play with them. They were so long that they had to stick the clubs under their left arm to be able to use them. John and his brother, Keith, built their own course around the local playing fields and the adjacent farmland much to the local farmer´s dismay. They made their own score cards, cut greens, and used empty, upturned Heinz food cans for the holes. In spite of the home made equipment John’s first round on a real golf course was 79 strokes as a 14 year old. John`s passion for the game is still very much alive today and awakes every morning longing to play the game he loves.
The most important aspect of golf.
Nurture your passion and love the game.
